Situation

(Jim Brown has just walked in the office.
And he starts complaining to his co-worker Ben Cha about the morning rush hour traffic jam in Seoul.)

I got stuck in traffic again this morning.

Jim Brown : Darn! I got stuck in traffic again this morning.
Ben Cha   : Did you drive?
Jim Brown : Yeah.

오늘 아침에 또 교통체증에 걸려서 꼼짝 못했어요.

짐 브라운 : 젠장! 오늘 아침에 또 교통체증에 걸려서 꼼짝 못했어요.
벤       차 : 운전해서 왔어요?
짐 브라운 : 네.

Ben Cha   : You&qout;&qout;d better not in Seoul. Why don&qout;&qout;t you take the subway instead?

Jim Brown : Are you kidding? The subway is always packed with people during the rush hour.

Ben Cha   : I don&qout;&qout;t blame you.

대신에 지하철을 타지 그래요?

벤 차     : 서울에서는 운전을 안 하는 게 좋아요. 대신 지하철을 타지 그래요?
짐 브라운 : 농담하지 마세요. 지하철은 출근 시간에 항상 사람들로 붐비잖아요.
벤 차     : 내가 어찌 당신을 탓하겠어요.

 

1. I got stuck in traffic again this morning.
오늘 아침에 또 교통체증에 걸려서 꼼짝 못했어요.

* got:  become &qout;&qout;~이 되다&qout;&qout;의 뜻으로 쓴 get의 과거형
* stuck : &qout;&qout;움직이지 않게 되다&qout;&qout;의 뜻으로 쓴 stick의 과거분사형
→ get stuck 꼼짝 못하게 되다, 곤경에 처하게 되다

* in traffic : 교통체증에 걸린
* be caught in traffic 교통체증에 갇히다
 →Iwas caught in traffic again this morning.
나는 오늘 아침에 또 교통체증에 갇혔어요

2. You&qout;&qout;d better not in Seoul.
서울에서는 운전하지 않는 편이 좋아요.

*= You had better not drive in Seoul. 서울에서는 운전을 안하는 편이 낫다.
* had better~  ~하는 편이 낫다.
 had better not~ ~하지 않은 편이 낫다
 had better 혹은 had better not 뒤에는 항상 동사원형

3. The subway is always packed with people during the rush hour.
지하철은 출근 시간에 항상 사람들로 붐벼요.

* packed: &qout;&qout;(사람들이)밀집하다, 모여들다&qout;&qout;의 뜻인 pack의 과거분사
be packed with ~로 꽉 찬, ~로 붐비는
be packed with ~와 같은 표현으로는 be jammed with~
* during ~동안
* the rush hour (출,퇴근 시간을 포함하는)교통 혼잡시간
